Social & Environmental Responsibility
Mizu Cimentos cares and respects the environment, valuing people and supporting the communities where it operates, believing in the human being and helping to preserve the future of Brazil and of the world.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
Green Cement
Mizu Cimentos produces an ecological cement, CP III 40 RS, which uses in its composition additions, generating lower emissions of polluting gases. The ecological characteristics and inherent qualities have made this cement a worldwide trend that already represents a quarter of all cement consumed in Europe and Asia, continents where the cement industry develops the most.
In large volumes of concrete reduces hydration heat
Improves and increases the durability of concrete structures
Additions
In 2019, more than 1.2 million tons of cement produced were type CP III with the addition of slag and CP IV with the addition of pozzolan, which drastically reduces emissions of polluting gases, contributing to the reduction of the greenhouse effect.
Co-processing
MIZU Cimentos clinker furnaces are prepared to replace petrocoque with liquid and solid waste. Coprocessing reduces CO2 emissions, in addition to harnessing the calorific value of passive industrial waste to the environment.
At the Pacatuba/SE plant, an efficient system has been installed to co-process solid and liquid waste, such as cuttings, catalysts, blasting abrasives, paint sludges, diapers, oil contaminated soil and footwear remnants.
In 2019, MIZU replaced more than 5% of Petrocoque, with a target of 30% by the end of 2020.
The Baraúna/RN plant, using an advanced tire shredding system and furnace feed, co-processed 4,000 tons of waste tires in 2019. The unit also has a state-of-the-art system for coprocessing oil sludge generated by the oil industry.
In 2019, we received 60.3 tons of material taken from the beaches of the Northeast, contaminated by a severe oil spill, providing a correct destination to this serious environmental liability.
Ecopoints
Aiming the correct disposal of waste tires for cars and trucks, MIZU Cimentos set up 20 Ecopoints, located in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and São Paulo.
Renewable energy
In 2019, the MIZU Cimentos units in Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro have been certified for the reduction of CO2 equivalent emission of greenhouse gases, by use of energy from renewable sources.
Green Areas
The planting of green areas is essential for the preservation of the environment and for the well-being of all. When it occurs on the borders of the units, we call it Live Fence. It provides improved air quality, thermal comfort, a more beautiful and pleasant environment, guaranteeing the quality of life of the surrounding community.
Hot Gas Generators
Mizu Cimentos and Polimix Argamassas over the past few years has invested in new, modern and efficient Heat Generators that make it possible to use Biomass as the main fuel to replace traditional non-renewable fossil fuels (natural gas and fuel oil), reducing CO2 emissions in the 7 industrial plants where the generators were installed. In the year 2022, we stopped emitting 20,723 t of CO2 equivalent.
Light Station Association
MIZU committed to the education and development of the Eusébio-CE region, in partnership with Associação Estação da Luz, contributes to providing more young and old people with access to quality education, culture, psychological care and sports.
