Commitment to the Environment
We at Mizu – Cimentos Especiais, belonging to a Polimix Organization, aware of the collective commitment of the national cement industry to the decarbonization of industrial activity, in 2018, started the implementation of a modern co-processing system in the two clinker kilns of our plant. Baraúna /RN, increasing from 5% to 35% in thermal replacement (average achieved in 2022). Currently, our alternative fuel is an energy blend composed of: biomass; Crushers and tires in the Northeast region of Brazil shredders and waste tires.
This achievement, added to the technical investment of factory equipment, represents a significant change in our energy. In the period from 2019 to 2022 (1.Sem) we stopped burning around 150,000 t of Petcoque. Considering the entire carbon footprint from Petcoque to the Baraúna/RN plant, our contribution to the reduction in CO2 emissions accumulated in this period was approximately 300,000 t of CO2.
This result is even more expressive when we add the numbers for the replacement of our cements, which reach 44% (while the national average is ~35%), thus increasing with a next reduction of 350,000 CO2 per year.
We do not stop there, another investment in progress to further contribute to decarbonization is the installation of a wind farm in Rio Grande do Norte which, from 2024 onwards, will supply 100% of the electricity demanded by our industrial plants in the North and Northeast .
These actions by Brazil in the commitment of the Polimix Organization contribute to the fulfillment of the carbonization goals – Rodmap – of the cement industry.
